Best of the semester III

           Everyone may dream a variety of dreams, such as a bad dream. But they do not remember them. I have an exciting dream which I have remember for a long time. I dreamed I was an eagle which had sharp eyes and beautiful feathers. One day, when I was standing on the trunk and looking at the quarry eating the weeds, the last person that I wanted to meet found me. He trained his shotgun on my heart and shot me. I found the hunter and tried to evade the attack, but it was too late. The bullet shot on my wing. Therefore, I fell down from the tree. The hunter walked to me. He said that he wanted my beautiful feathers. I was very scared. After he tried to shoot me again, I quickly shouted at him. I said that he could not kill me because I would do something useful to him. However, the hunter suspected that I would not keep my promise. As a result, I vowed that if I lost my promise, I would let him kill me. Consequently, we reached an agreement and I became his efficient assistant and good friend.

Best of the semester II

         Though, many elders think that comic books are worthless. But in my view, comic books are important and useful. There are some reasons why I say that. First of all, I can have a conversation with other people about comic books. We can exchange some ideas of comic books and discuss which characters we like. Maybe we will become good friends in the end, such as Amber, who is my best friend. We always share our comic books with each other. Moreover, I can learn lots of things that I don’t know. For instance, I learn how to blend multiple ingredients into a delicious drink. When I read Japanese comic books, I can learn many vocabularies and grammar. Besides, I can get the latest information about their country. Last and most important, I can relax when I pay my attention to read comic books. I don’t need to think annoying things. What I need to do is follow my emotions. If the character meets some villains and gets hurt, I will very angry and want to help the character. If the character is happy, I will feel the same. From what I have said, comic books play an important role in my life. And I always say that they are my spiritual food.

           Coming to an English-speaking country can have several positive effects on people who want to learn English. One effect is that people have more chances to practice English conversation. In addition, they can improve their pronunciation and intonation by listening people while talking. Knowing more idioms, general vocabulary, and technical words is another effect. It can help people quickly blend into the regional conditions, instead of feeling isolated. Most importantly, they will learn how to use the correct usages. For example, if people commit an error in grammar, next time they will not make the same mistake again. According to the effects above, I think that it is the best short cut to learn English well. If I have a chance to go to an English-speaking country, such as America, I must hold this chance and improve my speaking skills.

          Acton is a small town in the Midwest. It has a population of 2500, and the town has not changed very much in the past 100 years. Last month, Stanley Manufacturing decided to open a large factory in Acton. If I had been the inhabitant in Acton, I would have approved this plan. There are some positive impacts on Acton. First of all, it will promote the economic prosperity. For instance, people can have more job opportunities and earn more money to support their families. Secondly, more shops will move into Acton. Therefore, they have more choice of entertainments, such as shopping. Finally, people can contact other people from another area frequently. The more they contact, the more the latest information they can get.  Therefore, opening the new factory is good people in Acton.

          I think that buying a house on my own is better than renting a house for some reasons. First of all, I will not have lots of restrictions. For example, many landlords don’t allow the tenants to keep a pet. Also, if I have a house, I can have my own way to decorate the rooms. Secondly, if I buy my own house, I can have little dissension. For instance, the common problem that many tenants will face is rent. Finally, when I become older and older, I need not trouble where I should live. In short, I would rather buy a house than rent a house.

           Michael Williams opened a new store selling compact discs. However, after he had run this store for three months, he ultimately closed it. There are several causes of his failure. One reason is that the location of this store was far from the town. Therefore, most people would buy discs in two large music stores in the town rather than in Michael’s store. Another reason is that the age of residents in the Fairfax was almost forty to sixty. Most of the middle-age people didn’t like hip-hop and rock music. Finally, the hours of opening were so short that there were few clients. Besides, Saturday and Sunday were the peak time, but Michael’s store didn’t open on these two days. To sum up, if Michael had observed in advance, he would not have closed down his store.

         Many students always complain they don’t like to wear school uniforms, because school uniforms are inconvenient, uncomfortable, and absorbent. But I see eye to eye on wearing school uniforms. First of all, we do not need to think what we have to wear. Also, always wearing school uniform is the best way to save money. We need not to spend too much time and money buying new clothing. Secondly, it is easy to identify which school you study. If students have some emergency situations, passersby can immediately inform school teachers. Finally, students who wear school uniforms can display orderliness of their school. If students go to school with different clothing, it will be very tangling. Therefore, I strongly support that students should wear school uniforms.

       Every year, thousands of animals are used in laboratory experiments. Because of some insignificant reasons, they are killed. Although many people take it for granted in experiments, I strongly think that we don’t have the right to kill them. First of all, it is too cruel. Animals have feelings. Some cosmetics used to keep people beautiful are made from bitterness of animals. Secondly, if we use too many animals in experiments, we will destroy the ecosystem. Natural enemies disappear; animals which are suppressed by those experimental animals will have an impact on our life. Last but not least, animals are different from humans in many ways. Something is good for animals may have a bad influence on humans. It is for all the above-mentioned reasons that I believe we can’t use animals in laboratory experiments.

         One of teachers in my school resigns his job; hence, I need to hire a new English instructor. I received two resumes which from Lynn Whitnall and Debra Fines. Though the level of Debra’s education is higher than that of Lynn’s education, and Debra’s employment is more than Lynn’s, Lynn’s teaching experience is more than Debra’s. Furthermore, both of them can speak French fluently, but Lynn is great at Spanish, French, and Japanese. Besides, Lynn is excellent at Teaching Award, 2004. Judging from above reasons, I decide to hire Lynn Whitnall as a new English instructor.

They studied and practiced law; they were both delegated to the Continental Congress. John Adams was a signer of Declaration of Independence, and so was Thomas Jefferson.
